    Information on CSF Leaks:
    Cerebrospinal fluid supports, cushions and protects the brain and spinal cord. The fluid is held in by an outer membrane layer called the dura. When fluid leaks out of the dura the overall volume drops, this can cause a variety of symptoms; severe head pain and pressure, spinal pain/tightness, visual and audio changes, tinnitus, nasal drip, and a wide variety of other symptoms of varying intensities. The most common symptom of this condition is orthostatic head pain/pressure which is eased when laying flat and worse when upright, or as the day goes on. Head pain/pressure is not always present.
     
    CSF leaks can occur spontaneously with no obvious starting point, or be the result of epidural injections, lumbar punctures, or major trauma. CSF Leaks can be difficult to treat with localization of the leak site proving elusive; proper imaging techniques and patient positioning are crucial.
     
    If you suspect you may be suffering from this condition - we suggest joining a Facebook support group to find knowledgeable specialists near you.
     
    If you have this condition - do not give up, do not back down, persevere - make sure your doctors hear you.
    If you are a supporter of a CSF leaker - do not discount their pain because they look okay on the outside. Be empathetic, understanding and supportive. Your CSF leaker is going through hell.
